Legionella Testing Requirements
The legislation and regulations covering the risks posed by Legionella bacteria (the cause of Legionnaires Disease) are:
- The Health & Safety at Work Act (HSW Act)
- The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH)
Practical application of this legislation and these regulations is provided by way of the Approved Code of Practice (ACoP), otherwise known as L8. ACoP emphasises managing the risks posed by Legionella bacteria, including implementing a control scheme. Regular testing should form part of this control scheme.
